Japan on Arts
So I decided to make a trip to Japan, going to Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. I made sure to visit all the stores that might carry calligraphy supplies every time I went to a new place.
These places includes Tokyu Hands, Takashimaya, Daimaru, Loft, Sekaido etc. Let me tell you, their stationary/ Art supplies section is well stocked! Better than the stores in Singapore. Especially the brush pens, they have a whole shelf of brush pens from fine to thick complete with sample pens for test writing Σ(゜ロ゜;) Even tourist traps near sight seeing places sell a brush pen or two щ(゜ロ゜щ)
I did not manage to find any nice looking oblique pen holders though. As this is Japan, the pen holders they sell are mostly for manga drawing. Not to say I can't use it for calligraphy, but I was (still am) looking to get a unique looking pen holder, be it straight or oblique.
As the itinerary from yours truly (wife) is packed from dawn till dusk (not really but you get the idea). I did not have much of a chance to practice on a daily basis for the 2 weeks in Japan. An average of 20k steps per day minimum makes for a very nice sleep even on an unfamiliar bed.
That is not to say I haven't had the slightest chance to write. The post offices are well equipped! Tables and chairs, glues and damp sponges... Everything a typical Japanese requires for their postal needs. I just need the table and chair for writing. I brought my oblique pen and Iroshizuku ink everywhere with me everyday, in case of an emergency postcard.
